Hartland's snow, wind and forest
Hartland's ridges run above thirteen hundred feet, and the weather matches: the heaviest snow loads in Hartford County, long deep freezes, and ice at the eaves that can last from December into March. Wind crosses the exposed hilltops with nothing to break it, while the forested lots trade wind for shade, moss and a steady rain of branches and needles. Ice storms bring limbs down on roofs. The reservoir and the river valleys keep the low ground foggy and damp, and spring thaw is long and hard on old flashing.
