Weather in the Plainville valley
Plainville lies low along the Quinnipiac with the ridges of the Metacomet line to its east, so cold air settles in the valley and ice at the eaves is a regular winter event on the small, warm-attic houses. Mature street trees shade the older neighborhoods, keep north slopes damp and fill gutters every fall. Summer thunderstorms coming over the ridge bring gusts and occasional hail across the flat ground. The open areas near the airfield and the newer edges take more wind than the sheltered center streets.
