Candlewood damp and hill wind in Brookfield
The lake keeps its shoreline damp and foggy, so lakeside roofs grow moss on shaded slopes and dry slowly. The hills inland take heavier snow than the coast, with ice at the eaves on warm-attic raised ranches, and wind crosses the ridges and the open water to lift tabs on exposed slopes. Tree cover is heavy across the town, filling valleys and gutters and bringing limbs down in ice storms. Spring freeze and thaw works at old chimney flashing and at the joints of lake cottage additions.
