The Housatonic gorge and the hills: Cornwall's weather
The Housatonic gorge holds cold air and fog, so village roofs ice at the eaves early and shaded slopes stay damp and mossy. The hills climb toward Mohawk Mountain and take some of the heaviest snow in the state, which sits for months, while the ridges catch wind across exposed slopes. Forest shades most lots, drops needles and leaves into valleys and brings limbs down in ice storms. Spring thaw is long and works at old chimney flashing, and a leak on a weekend house can run unnoticed.
