Wind and snow on Wolcott's high ground
Elevation sets the weather in Wolcott. The hilltop takes wind from every direction with little to break it, lifting tabs on exposed slopes, and winters bring heavier snow and longer cold than the valley below, with ice at the eaves on warm-attic ranches and raised ranches. Summer thunderstorms cross the high ground with gusts and occasional hail. The wooded lots trade wind for shade and debris in the valleys, and the Mad River keeps its banks damp and mossy.
