River valley damp and open-lot wind in Lisbon
The river valleys through Versailles and Hanover hold fog and damp, so village roofs stay shaded and mossy on north slopes and ice at the eaves early. The open farm fields take wind across exposed slopes and summer gusts with occasional hail. Winters in eastern Connecticut are long, with heavy snow and ice at the eaves on cold mill-house attics and warm subdivision ones alike. Wooded lots fill valleys with debris and drop limbs in ice storms, and spring freeze and thaw works at old chimney flashing.
