Hebron's hills, forest and winter
Hebron sits in the hills east of the river valley, high enough for heavier snow and longer cold than Hartford sees. Ice at the eaves is routine on warm-attic colonials and cold-attic farmhouses alike. Forest covers most lots, so roofs are shaded, north slopes grow moss, valleys and gutters fill with leaves and needles, and ice storms bring limbs down. The open farm fields around the greens take wind across the roofs that face them. Spring freeze and thaw is long and works at old flashing.
