Hill-country weather over Mansfield
Mansfield sits in the hills of eastern Connecticut, with heavier snow and longer cold than the river valley. Ice at the eaves is routine on the mid-century houses with warm attics. Tree cover is heavy outside the campus area, filling valleys and gutters and dropping limbs in ice storms. Open fields around the farms and the campus edges take wind across exposed slopes. The Fenton and Willimantic river valleys hold fog and damp on cold mornings, and spring freeze and thaw is long.
