Inland woods and ridge wind over Wilton
Wilton's canopy shades most roofs all day, keeps north slopes damp, grows moss and algae on shingles and fills valleys and gutters every fall, with limbs down in ice storms. Winters are colder than the shore towns to the south, and complex rooflines with many inside corners build ice behind dormers and in valleys. The Norwalk River valley holds fog and damp, and the ridge lines take wind across exposed slopes. Spring freeze and thaw works at old chimney flashing on the farmhouses.
