Connecticut River fog and hill snow in Haddam
The river holds fog and damp along the village roads, so shaded roofs grow moss and dry slowly, and the valley takes wind up from the Sound in storms. The hills take heavier snow than the river road and ice at the eaves on cold village attics and warm subdivision ones alike. Forest covers most of the town, filling valleys and gutters with leaves and bringing limbs down in ice storms. Spring freeze and thaw works at old chimney flashing, and the river runs high.
