River fog, hill snow and lake damp in East Haddam
The Connecticut River holds fog and damp along the village, and the lakes do the same for their shorelines, so shaded roofs grow moss and dry slowly. The hills take heavier snow than the shore and wind across open farm lots, with ice at the eaves on cold village attics and warm subdivision ones alike. Forest covers most of the town, filling valleys with debris and dropping limbs in ice storms. Spring freeze and thaw works at old chimney flashing and at the joints of cottage additions.
