River valley damp and hill snow in Beacon Falls
The Naugatuck valley holds fog and damp, so village roofs stay shaded and mossy on north slopes and ice at the eaves early. The hills above take heavier snow and wind across the ridge lots, lifting tabs on exposed slopes. Forest covers most of the hill lots, filling valleys and gutters with leaves and bringing limbs down in ice storms. Spring freeze and thaw is long and works at old chimney flashing in the village.
