Hill shade and winter in Bethany
Forest covers almost all of Bethany, so roofs are shaded all day, north slopes stay damp, moss and algae grow on shingles and valleys fill with leaves and needles every fall, with limbs down in ice storms. The hills take heavier snow and longer cold than the shore towns to the south, with ice at the eaves on warm-attic colonials. The reservoirs keep the low ground damp, and the few open fields take wind across exposed slopes.
