Yantic valley damp and open-field wind in Bozrah
The Yantic valley holds fog and damp, so village roofs stay shaded and mossy on north slopes and ice at the eaves early. The open farm fields let wind cross roofs unbroken and bring summer gusts and hail across the farms. Winters in eastern Connecticut are long enough for heavy snow and ice at the eaves on cold mill-house attics and warm subdivision ones alike. Wooded lots fill valleys with debris and drop limbs in ice storms, and spring freeze and thaw works at old chimney flashing.
