Eastern hills and open ground: Colchester's weather
Colchester sits in the hills of eastern Connecticut, with heavier snow and longer cold than the shore, so ice at the eaves is routine on warm-attic colonials and on the old center houses with uninsulated attics. Open ground around the farms and the newer subdivisions takes wind across exposed slopes and summer gusts with occasional hail. Wooded lots trade wind for shade and debris in every valley, with limbs down in ice storms. Spring freeze and thaw works at old chimney flashing.
