Woodstock's hills, fields and long winters
Woodstock's hills take some of the heaviest snow in the state's northeast corner, and winter lasts: ice at the eaves can hold from December into March on cold farmhouse attics and warm subdivision ones alike. The open fields let wind cross roofs unbroken and bring summer gusts and hail across the farms. Wooded lots trade wind for shade, moss and debris in every valley, with limbs down after ice storms. The brook valleys hold fog and damp, and spring freeze and thaw is long and hard on old flashing.
