Deep woods and winter on Weston rooflines
Weston is almost entirely wooded, so roofs are shaded all day, north slopes stay damp, moss and algae grow on shingles and valleys fill with leaves and needles every fall. Ice storms bring limbs down on roofs. Winters are colder than the shore a few miles south, and complex rooflines with many inside corners build ice behind dormers and in valleys. The Saugatuck valley holds fog and damp, and the few open lots and ridge lines take wind across exposed slopes.
