Quinnipiac valley and ridge weather across Wallingford
The Quinnipiac valley holds cold air and frost, so ice at the eaves is routine on the postwar capes and the old center houses with uninsulated attics. The traprock ridge to the east sends wind across the hill subdivisions and lifts tabs on exposed slopes. Mature trees shade the center and Yalesville and fill gutters every fall, while the newer streets are more open. Summer thunderstorms bring gusts and occasional hail across the valley, and spring freeze and thaw works at old chimney flashing.
